Description
In celebration of International Women’s Day, Sister In Law will be hosting its pilot “Law for Ladies” brunch for 15 women. This brunch will underscore the necessity of solidarity among women when faced with legal challenges and we hope this builds a community of passionate and supportive women.
TOPICS:
Estate Planning:
42% of households in South Africa are headed by women, yet fewer women have wills or estate planning tools in comparison to their male counterparts. Given that women are increasingly taking charge of their financial futures, it is important for women to have the final say when it comes to the distribution of their estates in the unfortunate event of death.
Our keynote speaker will educate us on:
- why you need a will
- what to consider when drafting a will
- how to set up a trust (NB!)
- the function and importance of a trust
- the process to be followed when winding up a deceased estate
Marriage:
There is still a great deal of confusion when it comes to customary vs civil marriages. Women often end up being short-changed when they separate from their partners, and often times, women are not even aware that their union was/is classified as a customary marriage.
Our keynote speaker will educate us on:
- marriage contracts
- customary vs civil marriage
- legal consequences of polygamous marriages
- termination of a customary/civil marriage
The Law for Ladies brunch is an intimate session which will encourage women to bond over and learn from each other’s shared experiences. The brunch will take the form of a masterclass in order to educate women on legal topics pertaining to estate planning, marriage, divorce and child maintenance. The key topics for our first session will be estate planning and marriage. We hope that the intimacy of this brunch will encourage a robust conversation which will put a spotlight on the different ways in which women can access the law to protect their interests.
STRUCTURE OF THE BRUNCH:
For an investment of R1,490pp each guest will leave the brunch with a fresh perspective on the topics which will be covered and will receive the following in addition:
- guide and workbook which contains a summary of the topics discussed during the masterclass. This guide is an effective tool which will require each guest to reflect and action everything they learned from the brunch in their personal time
- food and drinks (non-alcoholic)
- goodie bag
- photo’s taken by a professional photographer
- 10% off on future brunches (unlimited)
- 10% off Sister In Law merchandise (limited time)
More than anything, this is an opportunity to form a sisterhood and to allow ourselves to be vulnerable in the comfort of women who have either experienced legal challenges or are simply empathetic towards women who are facing legal challenges.
NB: Limited to 15 women.
